Dye Family | Down Town Main St.

What a joy it is to get to watch families grow! You might recognize this sweet bunch from all around the website. I was so blessed to be this families photographer last year for a Day In The Life and some family portraits. So when Cam contacted me again this year for another family session I was so excited!

They chose the iconic strip of Down Town Main st. as the backdrop for their family session. Main st. holds a lot of meaning for this family, as with many Las Cruces locals, for it is home to our weekly Farmers Market and many other family friendly public event. I have to admit, It was kinda strange to have the place all to our self, but it made for some really sweet moments to be shared together.

Thank you, Cam and Andrew for asking me to be your photographer once more! It was truly a delight to see how much these kiddos have grown!

Cody & Kaili | NMSU Botanical Gardens

Cody and Kaili have such a fun-loving dynamic about them. When Cody first asked Kaili out they went for a hike up 'A' Mountain. Once they reached the top, Kaili sat down to look out at all the lights and then to her surprise Cody had taken off his shirt and told her that he wouldn't put it back on until she agreed to be his girlfriend!

I wasn't too sure about this "Cody character" until I had the opportunity to witness his heart for the Lord and pursuit of the lost while on a mission trip to South Asia. I was deeply encouraged to see such a young man of God striving to know the Lord more and love the lost.  Kaili is an absolute joy to be around, cares deeply for her family and friend, and seeks the Lord passionately-to know Him more and be known. Recently they have opened up their home to host our community group and I have been so blessed to get to know each of them better through this.

Needles to say, I was super excited when they booked their mini session with me! It was truly a delight to get to spent some sweet time with them capturing their love for each other and joy-filled-laughter. Cody and Kaili, thank you for sharing this special time your your lives with me.

Butler Family | 1 hr Family Session

I had the joy of photographing this family's Day In The Life back in the spring and now their 1 hr Family Session! My family sessions are more geared towered capturing those natural bonds and expression between each other. There is lots of play and running around, but I will pull the whole family together so we can create some truly unique and memorable portraits.

I met up with the Butler family at a near by park that thy frequent often. I explained to Steph and Andrew that we would start out our time together by playing on the jungle gym some to letting the little ones get out the wiggles before diving into some more classic portraits of the family. We all agreed that this was a good idea!

With Doc Sessions I never know what's going to happen in front of my lens and that's where the true fun of it all lies for me. I love seeing each personality come to life and the sweet moments of stillness that happen between parent and child. Thank you, Steph and Andrew for letting me spend the evening with you and your beautiful family! Cant wait to do it again!

Nathan & Megan | ABQ Engagement

Megan and Nathan's love for each other is more than apparent! We had set up a progressive documentary engagement session where we visited some of their favorite places in Albuquerque. We started with a walk through the Rio Grand Bosque to the river, and then we headed over to the eclectic nightlife of Central to get a bite to eat, the next morning we meet back up for waffles at Tia B's La Waffleria.

Megan and Nate knew each other in college, but it wasn't until years later in an airport wait for a mutual friend of theirs to arrive home that sparks started to fire in Nate's eyes for Megan. A couple of months later Nate called Megan out of the blue and asked her to dinner. They have been hanging out ever since, and now they are engaged to be married March 18th!

Baby Eva | First 48 Session

Today I bring you some images that are very close to my heart! I had the blessing of being able to visit my childhood best friend and her husband in the hospital for the birth of their first child. While I was visiting and loving on their precious newborn I got to take my camera out and capture some sweet moments of baby Eva's first days of life outside the womb! I am one proud fraunti!

On July 22 at 5:48 AM Eva entered the world and flooded her all of our hearts with more love than we knew possible! I have been blessed to know Abi (her mother) since middle school. Abi and I have seen each other through so much of life, life that was once just a "someday when" two teenagers dreamed up on their bedroom floors together. Now I stand in amazement at all I've seen God do in both of our lives. When I saw this precious baby girl in my sweet friends arms next to the man of her dreams I was beside myself! What a blessing! What a gift! What an incredible joy!

"My husband and I are so grateful for Alex visiting us at the hospital and sharing with us her talent and gift in photography. She captured those moments in the hospital in such a natural way. From pictures of our daughter crying, being changed, eating, and being held. My favorite photo is the image of Eva's feet, because even a few weeks later those little feet have changed and grown. These are memories we will not only hold in our hearts, but thankfully we have captured in print, because this was the day the world changed for the better and we cherish these images."
-Abi K.

Abi and Chris, your world has indeed forever changed for the better! Eva, look out cuz this life ahead of you is going to be filled with so much love and adventure!

Thank you Alex for being an incredible friend and for taking these pictures of our sweet baby girl."

DAY IN THE LIFE | SUNDAY WITH THE BUTLER FAMILY

The Butler family.

I am beyond stoked to share with you guys this Day in The Life session I recently shot with the Butler Family.

I first meet Steph and Andrew in College and they have quite the coming together story, but that’s for another time. They now have 3 of the most adorable children. I was originally in conversation with Steph to document the birth of their newest addition, as life and timing would have it though I was unable to photograph the birth their precious little one. ;(

I offered to do a Day In The Life session instead and was so blessed by time with this family. There is such a calm...yet SPUNK about this family that kept me so engaged throughout the whole day. We spent a refreshing Sunday together. Complete with; bike riding, cheery picking, family lunch, rough housing, and sweet sweet moments of stillness.

Thank you, Butler family for inviting me, and my camera, into your lives for the day ;)

DAY IN THE LIFE | DYE FAMILY

Day In The Life #2! The more I do this the more I fall head over heels in love with these beautiful families! As I was confirming final logistics with the Dye family the mom sent me this message.

Now, keep in mind, we are not a picture perfect family! Haha- no seriously.  The kids throw tantrums, we have to give discipline every day to these little humans, our kids like being very messy and Andrew and I get worn out.  Our home will be clean when you come…but it will be crazy messy by the end of the day.  Of course we grownups will be on our best behavior (we can't help it when we have a friend over).”

I couldn’t help but laugh, but at the same time I understood that these were real concerns.

This mama’s concerns are not uncommon among my style of work. Life is rarely "picture perfect", but you see the people we share life with is what makes life so memorable and my PASSION is to capture that in an artistic and creative way. You don't have to be all smiles. Your house doesn’t have to be spotless. And PLEASE DON’T be on your best behavior! Just be yourselves, because those are the real moments you will want to look back on for years to come. Live your life lovin on each other, and let me awe you with just how perfectly imperfect your family is!

Oh. My. Word. This family is beautiful!

I was so blessed to spend a down-home Saturday with the Dye family. The plan was to head to the local Farmer's Market, out to eat, hang out, and this particular weekend they were hoping to take their oldest son to pick out his first very own Bible.

When I look at these images my heart floods with all the warmth and care they each have for one another!

Thank you, Dye family for inviting me, and my camera, into your lives for the day :)

DAY IN THE LIFE-MOVE IN SESSION | H FAMILY

“Hi Alexandra, my family and I are moving from Arizona to New Mexico. We're excited and quite nervous about our move, and the idea of capturing this early part of our journey in New Mexico sounds amazing.”

-Mom

Receiving this inquiry was like a dream come true! I photographed my very first Day In The Life session last month and had the most amazing time! I am so happy to finally be taking the time to sit down and share this session with you.

A Day In The Life (DITL) session is focused on capturing your family's every day. I truly believe that it is all the moments in between, not just the millstones in life, that make up our lives. When this family contacted me about doing a DITL during their move to New Mexico I was thrilled! I have moved multiple times throughout my life, some were half way around the world. Not many people (myself included) would want a camera in their face during a time like this. However, understanding the emotions and sentiments that take place during this particular season of life I was eager, to say the least, at the opportunity to capture those first moments of discovering a new home.

I feel so grateful to continually be introduced to such remarkable people doing what I love! The 'H' family embodies such a sense of comfort and love for each other that definitely showed throughout the whole day. Thank you 'H' family for having me over to your home and inviting me, and my camera into your lives for a day :)

ARTISTVIEWS | A SERIES OF INTERVIEWS FEATURING BRILLIANT ARTISTS OF TODAY

Welcome to ARTISTVIEWS!

ARTISTVIEWS is a new series I am venturing into, wherein I will be featuring interviews with artists of all different art forms. I have always needed a creative outlet in life. Over the years this has lead me to try my hand at a wide range of art forms; painting, sculpture, music, metal-works. You name it, my mother has it displayed somewhere in her house. Because of my constant ache to create and express myself I have many unfinished projects, like the mural in what used to be my bedroom growing up (I wasn't kidding earlier). To this day when I go home to visit, my parents will still ask me, "Are you ever going to finish that painting?". Also because of this need to create, I have grown a deep passion and respect for other artists who have dedicated themselves not only to their craft, but to presenting the very best of themselves and their work to the world.

All these outlets have led me to the art of photography, specifically documentary/photojournalism where I specialize in modern-storytelling imagery. By interviewing other artists I would like to shine light on their preferred art form in hopes of learning something from each other and inspiring others to create!

I have already received so much support and enthusiasm from the artists I've approached so far with the idea. I'm excited to share their stories with you here! And now I leave you with a quote from one of the up-coming featured artists for, ARTISTVIEWS: A Series of Interviews Featuring Brilliant Artists of Today.

In Home Anniversary Session | Taylor & Lindsey

On a cloudy late-spring evening I arrived at the home of Taylor and Lindsey to capture the two hanging out celebrating their first year of marriage. I've known this couple for years and in that time I've seen their deep love for Christ, for people, and for each other. So when asked, I was more than enthused to be their photographer to document their first year of marriage. Taylor and Lindsey were married on May 24, 2014. When I asked them what they most remember about their wedding day here were their responses.

Taylor:I remember looking out and seeing ALL the people who were waiting to see Lindsey and I get married.  I remember walking up to the front with Andrew (the officiator) and again looking at the faces of all the people watching me- everyone was so genuinely happy! ...I remember watching Lindsey and her Dad walk down the aisle and seeing how happy and beautiful Lindsey looked- we couldn’t stop smiling!”

Lindsey:I remember getting ready in the dressing room with my mom, and having her do my makeup. I remember lining up with my dad to walk down the aisle and being so nervous but so sure of what was about to happen. Everything felt surreal, like it wasn’t really me in my body. I remember walking down the aisle and not knowing where to look, but I just wanted to look at Taylor. He is right, we couldn’t stop smiling. I remember looking over at Taylor’s mom and she was just bawling.”

Taylor and Lindsey have a great passion for Jesus Christ and making His love know to others!

Taylor: “Andrew D. did the BEST job during the ceremony- he communicated so clearly how Marriage was a display of the Gospel to the world! Lindsey and I prayed together, sang a worship song with the congregation, and said our vows.”

Lindsey: “I loved that we got a chance to really pray together, it was one of the best memories because we got to pray not only for our marriage, but for all the people attending our wedding. That all of them would be ready to hear the word of God and understand His great love for us.”

Now, a year into a lifetime together Taylor and Lindsey have taken their vows to each other and turned them into a reality. Nearing the end of their Session I was checking to see if there were anymore moments they wanted documented. They asked if it would be okay to take some photos with their neighbors. I was all for it! Just another example of Taylor and Lindsey's heart for people and how they are committed to spreading the love of Christ. I was so blessed to be let into their home and lives for the evening. When I arrived Taylor was cleaning up a busted light bulb and it was just the perfect scenario to walk into for capturing their life together one year later.

Taylor & Lindsey, thanks for the tour of your home and for spending your evening with me!

Old Mesilla Family Session | Ryan, Crystal & Baby Joseph

Two weekends back I met up with Ryan, Crystal and Baby Joseph for their Family Session on their old stopping grounds of Old Mesilla where Ryan and Crystal used to live in college. The eclectic and old west charm of this part of Southern New Mexico is what makes for great memories and documenting! Ryan and Crystal are high school sweethearts and married in 2008 “We were young and knew that regardless of where God was taking us that we wanted to do it hand in hand” said Crystal. “Our miracle baby was born on November 9, 2014. My water broke and I was only six months pregnant. I prayed God would allow me to hold on two more weeks to reach 7 months and our prayers were answered! We spent 75 days in the NICU and even though things were difficult we always held onto our faith. Today our “big boy” weighs 18lbs and is 6 months old. He loves to smile and giggle. He likes Sesame Street and loves to cuddle.”

I was completely taken by this family, for their love of one another, their unshakable faith, and their joy-filled smiles! While celebrating and documenting Joseph’s 6 month milestone, it was also Ryan and Crystals 7th anniversary! So of course I had to get just the two of them behind my lens. I like to ask all my clients where they see themselves in 50 years and this is what Ryan and Crystal had to say, “I pray that we are a strong family and that the examples we set for our children will help them to become strong humans of faith.” It was a true delight hanging out with this family capturing sweet moments of love between them. I can’t wait to celebrate and document Josephs first birthday in November!

Anniversary Session | Jeremy & Emilie

I met Jeremy and Emilie while attending university.  Emilie and I became the best of friends and eventually even roommates. She is my ‘brown love’. My sister-friend. My shoulder to cry on. My Friday afternoon spill all to.

On April 26, 2014 I had the great honor and gift of standing beside Emilie as her maid-of-honor on her wedding day. One year later it was my honor once again, but this time to celebrate Jeremy and Emilie's anniversary by being their photographer for their Anniversary Session.

When we first sat down together to discuss the details of their Session I asked them to think of a few locations that have been meaningful to them and their relationship. They came up with quite a few but we narrowed them down to 3 exceptionally special locations; the tree out in front of their first home together, downtown-where they danced in the streets on key dates, and the spot where Jeremy proposed.

We began their Session at their home where they were finishing getting ready. Both Emilie and Jeremy incorporated elements to wear during their Session that were worn on their actual wedding day.  For Emilie it was her, embellished feed-through satin sash she wore around her waist and wedding dress. For Jeremy it was his, coffee-bean brown leather shoes and tie.

In front of the tree outside their home I captured some sweet moments between the two of them proudly holding out the, ‘One Year Later’ wooden and painted white cutout, I had made for their shoot and getting all cutesy under Emilie's veil.

Next we got in the car and headed downtown where basically, they were on a date and I just got to be there with my camera to document their joyous love for one another.

And finally just as the sun was setting we did a remembrance shoot of Jeremy’s proposal to Emilie. Not having been able to take photos on the actual day I was thrilled to be able to give them these photographs to serve as a tribute to that very special day in their lives.

Jeremy and Emilie, you are two of my most favorite people! May you celebrate 50 and even 60+ more years together! God bless!!

Hello & Welcome!

Hello & Welcome to my Website!

I am so glad you are here and hope to be collaborating with you soon for your next session with me. ;) I have had a camera in my hands for years, documenting different seasons of life for myself and others. However, it wasn't until after I moved out of the US to live and teach in India that I really became serious about my work as a photographer and the stories an image can tell.

Now that I am back in the States I have decided to set my sights high and jump into this world of professional photography. I have been led this far and am excited for the road ahead!

Going for it!

Alexandra ;)
